New awakenings at this year’s Network Gathering!
A true awaking of collective action came from this years network gathering which took place in the beautiful Boghill Centre in the Burren, Co. Clare. Whether it was the fresh air or the spiritual sensation from stone circles and holistic practices in the area I am feeling extremely energised and excited for what is to come in the next year to follow.
Heather welcomed the group by encouraging people to participate in a “diversity welcome” where we say a little about ourselves, what makes us diverse and welcome both people who share this attribute and who do not. I was overwhelmed with inspiration being surrounded in the room by such extraordinarily talented, adventurous, creative individuals who are happy to share and welcome each other to this space.
The following day we cracked into the hard stuff (not the whiskey) but campaign planning in TTIP, Divestment and Fracking and deciding as a group how Young FOE can best contribute to these campaigns. We then got some time out from the busy day to walk around the grounds of the Boghill Centre with one of the owners Sonja O Brien and to plan a tree to compensate for our carbon footprint to get there. Sonja showed us the Cob House she and others at the centre built and I have no doubt all of us had fantastic ideas of how we could recreate these fantastic structures in our backyards in Dublin :).
On the Sunday we discussed how Young Foe can grow and work as a movement going forward and our plans for build up to the Climate Talks in Paris in December and beyond. Such amazing energy and excitement developed out of these conversation and we learned from each other the Young Friends of the Earth we would like to see going forward in terms of how we would like to work and lead as strong resilient young activists.
I am very excited for what is to come from the Young Friends of the Earth activists group we have already started planning for a creative action to show support to Stop Climate Chaos at the premiere of “This Changes Everything” in Merrion Sq on Sept 26th. Come check us out or join in the fun if you are about 🙂
