Young FoE AGM 2013

25 March 2013

On the Saturday 23rd of March, young Irish activists from all over Ireland gathered in Cork for the Young Friends of the Earth AGM. This took place alongside UCC’s National Student Environmental Forum which took place on the Friday.

UCC’s Environmental Society had organised the NSEF, which involved a day of talks by speakers such as Eamon Ryan (Green Party), John Gibbons (climatechange.ie) and Oisín Coghlan (Friends of the Earth).  Through these talks we heard about how Climate Change is and will be effecting us and what we need to do to prevent it, how public interest  about climate change has changed over the last decade and much much more.

During our AGM we had a lot of fun brainstorming ways to improve our fracking campaign, and coming up with some really exciting ideas for our upcoming Sustainable Agriculture and Food Sovereignty campaign and a lot more.

The most exciting part of the day however has got to be the election of the new National Co-ordinating group! This group of passionate young volunteers will direct Young Friends of the Earths path in the next year, organising campaigns, helping young people be heard and having fun while doing it! So from everyone I would like to say welcome to the new NCG and let’s make this year count!
